As Public Relations Officer and Associate Vice President of Marketing & Communications at Longwood Gardens, Patricia Evans is responsible for all external and internal brand communications. In addition to overseeing brand messaging across various platforms, Patricia serves as a chief media liaison for the organization, including strategizing, crafting, and disseminating all media communications. Prior to joining Longwood in 2004, Patricia spent 12 years as a reporter and editor with high-tech trade publisher Seybold Publications, then a division of Ziff Communications. As Managing Editor at Seybold, Patricia authored numerous articles, was a frequent speaker at industry conferences, and managed an editorial team of 22. Named to Ziff Communications’ Chairman’s Circle, Patricia’s work has been recognized by the Computer Press Association, PR News, Garden Communicators International, and the Telly Awards. Patricia is a member of The Public Relations Society of America, Garden Communicators International, and the American Public Gardens Association. In addition to her professional affiliations, Patricia also is active in her community, having served on the Board and the Executive Committee of the Southern Chester County Chamber of Commerce, and currently serving on the Board of Kennett Collaborative, a non-profit dedicated to ensuring the community of Kennett Square, PA, thrives and is a place everyone can belong and prosper. She received a BA in Journalism from Penn State University.
David graduated from Dickinson College and Yale Law School, after which he and his wife, Barbara were Peace Corps Volunteers in Nigeria during the early 1960s. There he taught in the Law Faculty of the University of Lagos. He later served in the Office of General Counsel of the Peace Corps. David practiced law for 50 years with Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads, LLP. Philadelphia. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, specializing in intellectual property and technology-based disputes. Before moving to Crosslands, David was active in civic affairs in Swarthmore, over time serving on the Wallingford-Swarthmore School Board, Swarthmore Borough Planning Commission, and Swarthmore Borough Council, and as Swarthmore Borough’s representative to the Central Delaware County Authority. He is a member of Swarthmore Friends Meeting, where he has served on many of its committees. David and Barbara have two children and four grandchildren.
Will lives in Newark DE with his four children and his wife, an associate director of strategic operations at IQVIA, and a UU ministerial intern. He is a member of the Media Monthly Meeting; attended Westtown School, Boston University, and Drexel University. He is a registered architect and owner of Footprint Architecture & Design. He devotes a significant portion of his time and energy to supporting and growing communities. Current service: City of Newark Planning Commission, chair; Newark Community Cooperative Store; Westtown School Alumni Connectors; Newark Charter High School Career & Technical Education Advisory Group. A native New Englander and active Quaker became Head of Middle School at Friends in July 2012 and returned to his role as varsity baseball head coach in 2018; he had previously served the school as a teacher and coach from 1993-2002, and as Middle School Dean for Students from 1999-2002. After serving for two years as Director of Development for the Genesee Valley Outdoor Learning Center (MD), Jon became the founding head of Friends School of Harford (MD), where over an eight-year tenure, he led the school’s expansion from a single grade to a vibrant K-8 program. In addition to serving as a Trustee with Kendal-Crosslands Communities Continuing Care Retirement Communities (2012-2018, 2022-present), Jon is a member of the Delaware Baseball Coaches Association Executive Board and has served on the Board of the Maryland Center for Character Education, the United Way of Central Maryland, as a member of the Heads Support and Evaluation Committee at Friends School of Mullica Hill, and as a member of the Harvard Club of Delaware Education Scholarship Committee. Jon met his late wife, Christine, a Friends School of Baltimore alum, at WFS in 1997. Their youngest is a current WFS student and their oldest is a recent WFS graduate. In 2021, Jon married WFS alum, Kelly Bush Huxtable ’87, whose oldest daughter is also a recent WFS grad and youngest is in high school. Jon holds a BA from Haverford College and Ed.M. in educational leadership from Harvard University. Jon grew up attending Cambridge Friends Meeting in Massachusetts, is currently a member of the Gunpowder Friends Meeting in Sparks, MD.
Samira has a Master of Science, Data Analytics, University of Maryland Global College Bachelor of Science, Psychology, the University of Maryland with more than 20 years of experience managing business and philanthropic operations for both Fortune 500 companies, higher education, and non-profit organizations. Samira is focused on increasing profitability and productivity through continuous process improvement. She has expertise in revenue management; project management; and championing the advancement of analytical tools, systems, and controls to enhance data management for business intelligence decision-making. Samira is a perceptive and influential leader with acute business acumen and expertise in building and leading high-performance teams to stimulate transformational change, innovation, and value creation. She is an articulate communicator with a proven track record of establishing solid relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to enhance organizational effectiveness. Samira’s technical proficiency includes Microsoft Office Suite, Raisers Edge, SalesForce, Crystal Reports, IBM Watson Analytics, and Tableau. Samira is currently the executive director of donor strategy and special initiatives at Northeastern University where she provides direct management and oversight to prospect management and donor relations and works in partnership with the Vice President, Advancement Resources on campaign planning and corporate partnerships. She manages and ensures effective execution of aligning business support and partnership functions and policies and procedures with the strategies, resources, and priorities of the University and its philanthropic efforts. Samira is a member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, a member of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement, Association of Advancement Services Professionals, and Women of Color in Fundraising and Philanthropy. She is a distance runner and has completed a half or full marathon in 24 states with the goal of completing all 50 states. She is the proud mother of one son, Judson Tallandier II, who is a student-athlete (football) at the University of Pittsburgh. She enjoys traveling, reading, and interior design.
Lisa is the Chief Executive Officer for Kendal~Crosslands Communities. Her visionary leadership is responsible for strategic planning, financial and budgetary management, resident services, and quality healthcare programs for the community. A seasoned executive with extensive experience leading health care organizations, from 2015 to 2019, she served as Chief Operations Officer of Caron Treatment Centers, a nationally known, not-for-profit provider of addiction and behavioral health care for more than 60 years. During her tenure, she streamlined the admissions and intake process, analyzed fiscal efficiency, championed ethical marketing practices, expanded research programs, and promoted the use of outcomes-based treatment. Lisa’s experience also includes three years as Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director of a post-acute care network created to serve the University of Pennsylvania Health System and six years as a Vice President and Administrator with the Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network in Allentown and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. In those roles, she worked collaboratively with patients, staff, and local communities to achieve positive growth by focusing on best practices and quality outcomes. Her proven abilities to connect strategy & mission across multiple service lines to drive bottom-line results using lean methodologies and achieving efficient quality and service outcomes with programmatic results. Lisa also served for six years as an adjunct faculty member of the Wescoe School of Muhlenberg College in Allentown teaching courses on health care delivery systems, regulatory compliance, and marketing. Her education began with a degree in Nursing. She also has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Muhlenberg College and a master’s degree in business administration from DeSales University in Center Valley, Pennsylvania. Lisa is a nominated member of the Women’s Business Leaders of the US Health Care Industry Foundation and Council Member of the American Hospital Association Hospital and Healthcare.
Since 1988, Freeman Miller has been an Orthopedic Surgeon at the Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE and an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Thomas Jefferson University Medical College. In addition to his clinical work, he is a researcher and author of numerous scholarly articles and books in his field. Freeman is a member of Centre Monthly Meeting in Centreville, DE and he has extensive volunteer board experience, notable with Wilmington Friends School.
Claire Mooney, is the Chief Operating Officer for Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center. Previously, Claire was the President and CEO of two Tower Health Hospitals, Jennersville and Brandywine Hospital. Dr. Mooney previously served as Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for Jennersville Hospital, overseeing the nursing department, improving clinical quality outcomes and patient experience. She joined Tower Health in 2016 as Senior Director of Nursing, Reading Hospital, where she led the cardiac bundled payment initiative to improve patient care. Prior to her time at Reading, Dr. Mooney worked as Director of Nursing, Lancaster General Health, where she successfully led the MAGNET journey of over 500 members of the nursing staff, and co-published an article documenting higher survival rates at Magnet accredited adult trauma centers as compared to non-MAGNET hospitals. In 2019, Dr. Mooney was awarded the Pennsylvania Nightingale Nursing Administration – Executive Award. In addition to her clinical and administrative achievements, she is also the founder of NurseWorthy, LLC; specifically established to assist nurses in transitioning into leadership roles. Dr. Mooney earned her MBA from Alvernia University in Reading and a Masters of Nursing in Leadership and Health Systems Management from Loyola University – New Orleans, La. She received her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Loyola University – New Orleans, La., in 2018, during which time she obtained a grant from the Pennsylvania Crime Coalition to combat the nationwide opioid crisis. Dr. Mooney is recognized as an accomplished local and national presenter on the latest healthcare issues.
As Co-Founder & Principle of North Wind Leadership Partners, a consulting practice focusing on leadership/governance, organizational process/strategy, sales, and marketing- all of which contribute to Board service. Prior to founding North Wind, Sue served as Vice President of Professional Services and Support for an internet healthcare company, as well as in several sales and marketing executive positions within healthcare IT. Sue holds a Bachelor of Arts in socio-economics from Vassar College, and a Master’s in Organizational Leadership and is an adjunct professor in the Master’s Program at Immaculata University, teaching courses in leadership development, leadership, and ethics. Sue is actively involved in the community, having served on the Board of Directors I Trustees for several non-profits focused on improving health, education, and well-being such as: the Board of Directors – Community Volunteers in Medicine (Chair of Governance and Strategic Planning Committees), Board of Trustees- Vassar Club of Philadelphia (Secretary), Advisory Board member Girls Star, Auxiliary Board member- Tredyffrin and Easttown (T&E) Care, Chair, Grants Policy Committee- Chester County Fund for Women and Girls, Kennett Square Golf and Country Club- Finance and Long-Range Planning Committees, Waynesborough Country Club – Board of Governors (Secretary, Chair of Governance and Bylaws), Philadelphia Yearly Meeting – Administrative Council, Governance Committee, and Centre Friends Meeting and Willistown Friends Meeting – Clerk of Oversight I Worship & Ministry.
Dr. Sue Renz has devoted her career to promoting evidence-based and resident-centered practice in nursing homes. She is a nationally recognized expert in the care of older adults in long-term care. She has numerous publications pertaining to the care of older adults. Dr. Renz is the program director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program and the Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Programs at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. She maintains a teaching role in the primary care nurse practitioner program and the DNP program. Her doctoral project, The Impact of a Situation/Background/Assessment/Recommendation (SBAR) communication protocol upon nurse and medical provider satisfaction and rate of hospital transfers of nursing home residents, addressed a critical problem in the nursing home setting-the all too common failure to conduct and communicate timely nursing assessment of residents when there is an acute change in condition. She demonstrated that such an approach, when supported with staff education and a quality improvement feedback loop, yielded a reduction in unnecessary transfers to the Emergency Department, and improve the satisfaction of medical providers. Her dissertation focus examined communication patterns among nurses in long-term care and the effect on patient decision-making and unplanned hospital transfers. Dr. Renz has maintained a clinical practice for over 30 years in a variety of settings including nursing homes and primary care settings. She has precepted students from numerous universities.
Rick retired as a Senior Manager from the Vanguard Group in March of 2019 after serving 25 years, and having held leadership positions in call center management, institutional record keeping, client relationship management, strategic retirement consulting, and corporate philanthropy. While at Vanguard, Rick earned his Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA) and Qualified Pension Administrator (QPA) credentials from the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA), as well as, his Series 6 & 63 securities licenses from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).
Prior to Vanguard, Rick worked in the music industry, first as a Recording Engineer and Studio Manager at Sigma Sound Studios, and then as National Sales Director for Alpha International Records, part of Sigma/Alpha Entertainment Group, Ltd; an independent record label that was based in Philadelphia with manufacturing and distribution arrangements from Capitol Records and PolyGram Label Group.
In 1981, with a BA in Geological Sciences from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, Rick worked in the oil fields as a Hydrocarbon Well Engineer in Oklahoma City, OK.
Rick is an alumnus of Westtown Friends School, and in addition to his BA from Guilford College, Rick earned a degree in Music Production and Engineering in 1986 from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Rick attends Romansville Friends Meeting where he serves as a Trustee.
Anthony Stover, Community Relations Manager, joined the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald in February 1999 as a volunteer. In 2000 Anthony was recognized as Volunteer of the Year and in 2001 became a full-time house manager. Anthony has previously worked as Community Director for the March of Dimes and served on the Board of Directors for the Support Center for Child Advocacy and Public Citizens for Children and Youth. Anthony now serves on the Board of Germantown Friends School. Anthony also served 10 years in the United States Marine Corps as an Air Traffic Controller. Anthony Stover is a member of Germantown Monthly Meeting and serves as the clerk of the Quaker Life Council. Anthony was introduced to Quakerism in 2000 when his daughter entered kindergarten at Germantown Friends School. My desire to serve on the Kendal-Crosslands Communities (KCC) Board of Directors, comes from my love of our faith-based community the Religious Society of Friends, and a shared desire to add equity and diversity in supporting the mission. I believe because of my past board experiences and spirituality I would be able to add to this charge.
Dr. Andrea Taylor has been a resident of Kendal since 2018. She is a graduate of Sandy Spring Friends School, The University of Wisconsin (Madison), and Temple University where she earned both a master’s degree and a Doctorate. Currently, her consulting business, TaylorConsulting, LLC, provides support to non-profit organizations in research and evaluation, strategic planning, grant writing, program and curriculum development, training, and group facilitation. She is trained as a certified integral life coach and her coaching practice, Woman’s Encore, LLC, focuses on issues impacting older women (60+). Formerly, she was the Director of Youth Development at the Intergenerational Center at Temple University. During her tenure at The Center, she created “Across Ages” an evidence-based drug prevention program funded by SAMHSA, which mobilizes older adults (60+) as mentors for vulnerable middle school youth. Prior to her work at Temple, she was the Director of Training for the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging. Andrea serves on the Board of Trustees for two Quaker organizations, Farm & Wilderness Foundation in Plymouth VT. and The Hickman Senior Living Community in West Chester, PA. She has extensive board experience in strategic planning, governance/stewardship, and DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion). Andrea is a lifelong Quaker and is an active member at Centre Friends Meeting in Delaware. Her life has been shaped by her Quaker roots, her passion for strengthening intergenerational collaboration, and the belief that civic engagement and social activism are essential for healthy communities.

Donna has been the Chief Health Services Officer since April 2016. Prior, she served in several leadership and management positions over the past thirty two years as a Nursing Home Administrator, Executive Director, and Vice President of Operations for a Maryland faith-based not-for-profit life plan community organization, Integrace (formerly EMA Episcopal Ministries to the Aging) and Bayleigh Chase (formerly known as William Hill Manor). She holds a degree in Business Administration from Salisbury State University and has completed several local, regional, and national leadership programs. Donna is a 2015 LeadingAge Leadership Academy Fellow. She is a licensed nursing home administrator in PA and MD and holds a certification from AADNS as a QAPI Certified Professional and is a Certified Professional Aging Services Risk Manager. Donna serves as a CARF Aging Services Surveyor. Previously, Donna was a member of the Talbot County Commission on Aging from 2004 to 2015, a past member of the Continuing Care Advisory Committee of Maryland Department on Aging, and was an active member of LeadingAge, Maryland. Donna has also been involved in a wide range of community service activities in the past prior to relocating to Pennsylvania.
Ed has been the Chief Financial Officer since 2002. He is responsible for all budgetary, fiscal, capital, and investment management of all four communities. He leads the Finance team as well as the Sales and Marketing and Philanthropy departments. Prior to this role, he was the Director of Finance for another local retirement community for 11 years. He holds a degree in Business from Millersville University and he passed the Certified Public Accountants exam in November of 1988. In addition to his activities at Kendal~Crosslands Communities, Ed has been engaged in other initiatives. He is the Chair of the Board of Directors of RCHPPA, a self-insurance health care consortium providing health insurance coverage to staff and other dependents of Kendal~Crosslands Communities, as well as other long term care providers. He also served on the Garnet Valley School Board for 12 years where he was chair of the finance committee.
Seth is responsible for leading our resident-centric services including Culinary Services, Environmental Services, Information Technology, and the Facilities Departments as well as Capital Projects. Prior to this role, he joined Kendal~Crosslands Communities as the Director of Facilities, Grounds, and Capital Project. Seth brings to the Executive Team an accomplished background before joining KCC in January of 2017. His previous experience includes working for UGI Corporation as a Utility Engineer and for Century Engineering, Inc., where he was accountable for a department managing the civil and environmental portions of large-scale construction projects including land development, environmental permitting, and utility designs. Most recently, before joining KCC, Seth worked for Brethren Village, a nonprofit CCRC in Lititz, PA, where he led a team responsible for resident services that included maintenance, renovations, grounds, security, transportation, housekeeping, laundry, and purchasing. Seth holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Environmental Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. Seth is an accomplished leader and provides a calm and clear direction fostering healthy relationships and effective team building. Seth has proven abilities to carry out our values and is committed to both resident and staff member relationships, along with an abiding belief for a promising future for our community.
Michele is currently the Senior Director of Communications and Public Relations and has been with the Kendal Crosslands Communities since November 2011. She is responsible to continue to develop and implement a strategic community relations plan to support a positive image in the larger community. In addition, she creates and implements communication strategies that further operational goals, interact with the public, and established productive relationships with key stakeholders. Recently, Miche uses her experience to bring forward innovative ideas for recruiting development and collaborates with Human Resources to identify and provide opportunities for increased recruitment initiatives. For almost 15 years, she has worked in the retirement industry and previously for Presby’s Inspired Life as the Director of Sales and Marketing and Freedom Village as a Retirement Counselor. Michele has educated numerous older adults and their family members at local universities, civic organizations, religious institutions, and financial wealth management firms on the various options for retirement living. Previously Michele had a progressive career in Human Resources working in varying industries managing employee benefits and relations, hiring and retention strategies, and education and training. Michele was the President of the Greater Valley Forge Human Resources Association, an 800-member HR association. Michele is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Kennett Square Rotary Club. Other outreach initiatives include assisting in the formation of Active At Any Age, a local senior organization through the YMCA, participation in FSA Marketing Peer Group, and with the Marketing and PR Society (MPRS), and the Southern Chester County Chamber of Commerce. She was the 2014 recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Southern Chester County Chamber, holds a Senate of Pennsylvania congratulatory citation, and is a published writer. Michele holds a BA, in Economics, from Immaculata University and possesses more than 30 years of business experience.
Quiana is responsible for the strategic direction and implementation of the human resources function at Kendal~Crosslands Communities. In this role, Quiana manages a team responsible for benefits and compensation, payroll, recruiting, retention, training, and the Early Learning Center. She provides leadership in the planning, organization, administration, evaluation, and policy development overseeing all human resources functions Quiana brings to Kendal~Crosslands Communities over 10 years of progressive human resources experience, with her most recent role working for the city of Chester, Pennsylvania. In that role, she led a team to translate the city’s business objectives into strategic and operational human resources plans, implementing the same to achieve results. Quiana earned her Doctor of Public Administration and Master of Public Health from West Chester University and her undergraduate degree from Temple University. She has over 15 years of business experience.

Jill Ann Arbiz is the Director of Nursing (DON) at Kendal at Longwood and has been with Kendal~Crosslands Communities since September 2014. As the DON, Jill manages the skilled nursing and the personal care unit with the responsibility to direct the care provided by the nursing staff and to work with the interdisciplinary team in accordance with Federal and PA State regulations. Prior, Jill was the Nurse Manager of the Westmorland Unit. Jill has been a nurse for over 33 years with a focus in practice has been in Rehabilitation, working at both Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital and Magee Rehabilitation hospital for over 20 years. Jill maintains her rehabilitation nursing certification and also practiced nursing management at another long-term care facility for over 3 years. Jill holds a BSN from Neumann University and spent most of her career in rehabilitation with an interest in Spinal cord injury, Brain injury and Neurology. She holds a nursing certification in Rehabilitation, CRRN, DON, and CNDLTC. Jill is a Certified Dementia Practitioner, holds a certification as an Infection Preventionist, and is a member of PADONA, Leading Age, ARN, and APIC.
James is the Director of Information Technology for Kendal~Crosslands Communities and has been with the community since August 2009. James brings more than 20 years of IT experience to this position and provides oversight for all information systems and drives optimization and efficiency across the organization. James is responsible for Kendal~Crosslands Communities HIPAA Technical standards, NIST standards, and is serving on the Emergency Preparedness and Corporate Compliance Committees. Previously, James was an independent consultant, working with law firms, insurance companies, and physician offices. Prior to that role, James started his technical career at the Plymouth Township as their Network Support Specialist. James continues his education at Liberty University for Business Administration and attended Valley Forge Christian College, now the University of Valley Forge for Pastoral Counseling. James is a certified Microsoft System Administrator and Systems Engineer.
Cathy is the Nursing Home Administrator at Crosslands and has been with Kendal~Crosslands Communities since March 1987. In her current role, Cathy provides oversight to 60 Skilled Care beds, 51 Personal Care beds, and Resident Care Clinic serving 300+residents, and support services including Social Services and Activities. Cathy was instrumental in leading the center through a 17 million dollar renovation and developed and executed a 5-phase, 6+ year project including design, operations, communications, and training including, the transition from a medical model to a household model of care. Previously, Cathy served as the Director of Human Resources providing oversight and direction of all Human Resource functions for 500+ staff. In that role, she was responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing all policies and practices, benefit and compensation programs, workers’ compensation, staff relations and overall education programs, and oversight of the Child Development Program. Previously she held the role of Director of Dining Services where she was responsible for all operational and organizational aspects of the department, including purchasing, menu planning, cost analysis, and staff and resident relations. Cathy holds a BS in Business Management from West Chester University, her Nursing Home Administrator license, QAPI Certified Professional, and Certified Dementia Practitioner. Cathy completed the Kendal Leadership Fellow and the Leadership Dynamics – Organizational Strategy Series program and has presented at Pioneer Network and Leading Age National Conventions.
As Kendal~Crosslands Communities Director of Philanthropy, Rayna expands, implements, and maintains our effective fundraising programs for the communities. Working collaboratively with residents and staff members, Rayna supports efforts to maintain, create, and implement fundraising plans to ensure goals are met. Rayna earned her degree from the University of Delaware and has close to 10 years of experience in the field with solid experience working in the non-profit sector in both health care and the arts. Before joining Kendal~Crosslands Communities, Rayna’s prior experience includes working for Delaware Hospice, Music School of Delaware, and the Epilepsy Foundation of Delaware, where she exceeded fundraising goals through various efforts. Rayna is a leader who, in addition to knowing she makes an impact in someone’s life, enjoys building relationships. She lives in Newark, Delaware, and enjoys volunteering with her family with Big Brother/Big Sisters, Read Aloud Delaware, Habitat for Humanity, Newark Charter School, and the Ronald McDonald House.
Diane Loughery is the Director of Nursing at Crosslands and has been with Kendal Crosslands Communities since April 2014. Diane has been a Registered Nurse for 38 years and graduated from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Her Jesuit education provided a strong foundation in servant leadership. She earned her Master in Business Administration from John’s Hopkins University in 1989. Diane started her nursing career at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland where she worked as a clinical nurse and then joined the Quality Assurance team. She has worked as a staff nurse, Director of Nursing, and Regional Nurse for several long term care corporations. Prior to her employment at Crosslands, Diane also worked as a Long Term Care Consultant and Legal Nurse Consultant. Diane is board certified in Gerontological Nursing, Certified in Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI), certified as a Dementia Practitioner (CDP), and certified in ServSafe. Diane also maintains her license as a Nursing Home Administrator.
Roy Manno is our Director of Facilities. He is responsible for leading the operations of our maintenance staff, first responders, transportation services, and our grounds staff. The span of responsibilities involves four campuses, 500 acres, over 7 miles of hiking trails, multiple buildings, a wastewater treatment plant, cottages, and apartments. Roy joins us after serving as the Director of Facility Operations for Sodexo at Glaxo Smith Kline, overseeing operations at two locations in Philadelphia, PA, and Warren, NJ. Roy earned his B.S. degree from Lehman College, City University of New York, and his MBA from Iona College. For most of his career in their Healthcare Services Division, he worked for Sodexo, managing support services in hospitals and long term care facilities. Starting as an Environmental Services Manager, he worked his way to General and District Manager. Five years ago, he transferred to Sodexo’s Corporate Services Division as a Director of Integrated Facilities Management to help launch new pharmaceutical service operations contracts.
Sarah Matas has been the Health Services Administrator for Kendal at Longwood since 2016. As the Administrator, Sarah oversees the operation of the health center which includes both skilled care, personal care, and our Resident Care Clinic. Prior to returning to Kendal~Crosslands Communities in 2016, Sarah was the Administrator at another Kendal affiliate, Barclay Friends. Sarah started her Kendal career as the Associate Director of Social Services at Crosslands. Prior to delving into long-term care, Sarah spent 15 years as a hospice social worker in both Delaware and Southeastern PA. Sarah holds a Bachelor’s degree from Swarthmore College and designed her own major entitled Aging. After Swarthmore, Sarah earned an MSS from Bryn Mawr’s Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research. Sarah is licensed in PA as a Nursing Home Administrator and as a Clinical Social Worker, QAPI Certified Professional, and participated in the Kendal Leadership Fellows program. She’s a member of the National Association of Social Workers and passionate about politics. She has volunteered throughout her life with various community organizations, most notably projects impacting the schools her children attended.
John is the Director of Culinary Services for Kendal~Crosslands Communities and has been with the community since January 1990. In this role, he has direct oversight of all the Culinary Departments at both Kendal at Longwood and Crosslands which encompasses approximately 180 staff members. He provides leadership and management objectives for the overall culinary program in both communities as well as the culinary programs in both health centers. John provides essential leadership in the redesign of the dining venues and kitchen prep areas. Prior to this role, he was the Director of Culinary Services at Crosslands and Kitchen Production Manager at our Kendal at Longwood campus, John holds a BS Degree from Widener University in Hotel and Restaurant Management and is a LeadingAge PA Fellows in Leadership graduate. John is Serv Safe Certified; and holds a CPR Training and Certification, TIPS Certification and Training.
Helene started with Kendal~Crosslands Communities in October 2016. She is the Director of the Sales and Marketing Department and is responsible for leading the Sales & Marketing team that services all four communities. Prior to this, Helene was the Regional Director of Sales for Vantage Point Retirement Living where she had the responsibility of managing multiple communities in three states. A professional in the senior healthcare industry for more than 20 years, Helene has held a variety of positions, including Program Director of an acute in-patient rehabilitation unit at a hospital, manager of a home care aides at a local hospice agency, and director of sales at a local retirement community. Helene is known for maximizing occupancy and revenue by working closely with her teams to uncover challenges and fixing problems that impede growth. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and a minor in Marketing from York College of Pennsylvania.
Michelle has over ten years of facility administration and management experience and has worked in finance, human resources, campus planning and safety, and senior living campus development and operations. She began her career in facilities at Bergen Community College, a large community college in Northern New Jersey. Working directly with the Vice President, she led and coordinated a team that included maintenance, custodial services, event planning, grounds, and security. In her most recent position with Erickson Senior Living as the Assistant Director of General Services, her responsibility was to ensure the successful execution of department goals in finance, resident satisfaction, and engagement. In addition, she was accountable for seven managers and 200 employees to provide quality housekeeping, transportation, security, communication, and facility maintenance and services. Her proudest work with Erickson was working with the residents to resolve apartment issues and managing resident homes by executing timely service and compassionate, ongoing communications. Michelle recently finished her MBA at Ramapo College of New Jersey last year while working full time and through the pandemic, mainly to prove to her children anything is possible. Her favorite saying is, “We rise by lifting others.” Michelle looks at her job as a leader as an opportunity to teach, mentor, and grow people into all the things they want to be.
Nicole is the Director of Finance and has been with Kendal~Crosslands Communities since February 2008. Nicole is responsible for managing all accounting and finance functions for the community that includes budget, audit, and 900 tax returns. Nicole manages accounts receivable (billing), accounts payable, and the various general ledger functions. Nicole first started with Kendal~Crosslands Communities as a staff accountant and soon after Controller. Prior to working at Kendal~Crosslands Communities, she began her financial career with another retirement community, White Horse Village. She began as a part-time dining server then quickly started her my first part-time accounting job while in college and became full-time after graduation learning all of the functions in the accounting office from billing and insurance to payroll to accounts payable to the general ledger. Nicole holds a BS Degree in Business from Pennsylvania State University. She completed the Kendal Leadership Fellows program in 2014. Nicole enjoys volunteer programs with children and animals.
Antonio L. Sofia, BA, PT, DPT, CPASRM is the Director of Rehabilitation and Wellness for Kendal~Crosslands Communities and has been with the community since April 2017. Antonio provides management of quality programs and services in Rehabilitation, Fitness, and Health and Wellness consistently on all campuses. He provides input on the Risk Management, Corporate Compliance, Employee Safety, Emergency Preparedness, Fitness Advisory, Interior Design and Décor, and Inclusion Committees. Prior to joining Kendal~Crosslands Communities, Antonio held various rehabilitation director and practitioner roles with Barclay Friends, Main Line Health System, NovaCare Rehabilitation, Greater Philadelphia Hospitals, and Skilled Nursing Homes, and Overbrook School for the Blind. Antonio holds a BA in Anthropology Human Biology and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Temple University. Antonio holds a Certification in Professional Aging Services Risk Management and is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association – APTA and the International Council of Active Aging – ICAA
